Wintertime is teatime, and for many people that means plenty of soothing, warm cups of green tea. It’s seen as something of a miracle beverage, good for everything from chasing away colds to boosting heart health and even protecting against cancer. But can it do even more?
A new study by a team at Newcastle University indicates that the body’s ability to absorb key elements of green tea during the digestive process may help prevent Alzheimer’s disease in some people. It seems that as the tea is digested, chemicals are created that are effective against some of the biochemical triggers that can lead to Alzheimer’s development.
Of course, there’s much more work to be done, but this information is just another reminder that proper digestive health can do more for us than we may ever know. So if your diet is lacking in such staples as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and yes, even green tea, make some changes. You’ll improve your life tremendously now, and may even help your mental health years down the road.
